Being in Brussels for the CASES meeting gave us all the chance to get Michel Bryand to the meeting as well, to present him with the IFATSEA Tom Casey award for outstanding contribution to the ATSEP worldwide.

IFATSEA President Yvan Ouellette presented him with the award and wished him all the hapiness in his retirement....a wish we are sure all ATSEP share.

Thank you Michel!

This event was held on the 14th and 15th of September last, with the presence of IFATSEA's President Yvan Ouellette.

In first place a word of great apreciation and congratulations to our Belgian Eurogroup National Coordinators; Edine Schietekat and Luc Veroft.

The organization was fantastic at all levels, Dany van der Biest IFATSEA Vp has indeed a great team of ( great ) people to work with.

The outcome also corresponded to the expectations:

  • Significant Eu Comission personalities present.
  • Significant turnout.
  • Significant dialogue with all ATSEP present.

Canada Safety Awareness Day

22 September 2005

Nav Canada, IFATSEA and the IBEW Local 2228 have agreed to hold a Safety Awareness Day on September 22 2005.

The project is for all EL technical staff only and their managers.

  • It will involve all 41 manned sites Tech. Ops and Engineering. (I assume Eng and Ops will be in one room at major sites)
  • The Vice-President of Safety and Quality, John David, the President of IFATSEA , Yvan Ouellette and myself will be at the ANS Facility in Ottawa. We will present a short speech.
  • Tech Ops and Engineering management representatives will also make a short presentation.
  • Nav Canada has hired a guest speaker on Safety Management Systems.
  • All sites will be linked up via teleconference. (in both official languages)
  • Safety and Quality Section Specialists will be available at the major centers.
  • Question and answer sessions
  • The whole event should last a couple of hours. (11:00 AM till 2:30PM, Eastern DST) (other time zones to match Ottawa schedule)
  • Lunch will be provided by Nav Canada at all sites.

 Why is the union involved?

  • IFATSEA is holding such events from years in other Countries and it work well.
  • Raises our profile with in Nav Canada and the Aviation Industry through IFATSEA.
  • First Union in Nav Canada to suggest such an event. Other ANS providers have held similar events.
  • Opportunity for EL staff to learn more about SMS and risk.
  • Safety is everybody’s business.
  • Opportunity to show our concerns.
  • Raises ATSEP’s professionalism.

 Member /committee /steward involvement

Members are encouraged to attend the function at their site. (operational requirements permitting)

  • An IBEW Representative (local shop steward) will be identified to work with local management to plan site activities.
  • IBEW Professional Committee are automatically included.
  • Technical staffs have many concerns regarding safety in Nav Canada. Try to introduce issues in a positive perspective. We are here to help.
  • Executive Board should help coordinate in their region.

The success of this project will increase safety awareness and professionalism.

 Dave Gainforth

President, IBEW, Local 2228

Yvan Ouellette

President, IFATSEA

Image  NEW revised Logo

In the interest of clarity some minor updates have been performed on the classic logo.

It is now much more readable in small size.

It is advisable that ALL present published logos be replaced by this one to avoid confusion.

If a larger one is required please ask European Director for a copy 3Kx3K 360 dpi.

A smaller 500x500 360 dpi will be availlaible for download in the Document Library....the other is simply a file too large for download here.

Image Guest book is no longer public !

Admin was forced to take the guest book out of public domain because it was being used for other purposes.

It can still be used but only by registered members.

If you are ATSEP and wish to register , it's very easy.

Just send the IFATSEA European Director an email containing first and last name and a valid email address.

ImageCongratulations SATTA... IFATSEA is also proud of your example.

In the words of it's ever working president, contributed elsewhere in our forae :...

SATTA is happy and proud to announce, that as of 09.08.2005 the
Federal Office of Civil Aviation has decided, that Switzerland introduces an
ATSEP-License for defined ATSEP activities.
A courageous decision from the Ministry of Transport, that will invariably
radiate outside of our national borders. It will set a long needed signal,
especially with the experience Switzerland had to share.
To all of you, who have helped in this endeavour towards more safety and
efficiency in air traffic, a wholehearted, thank you.
Our special thanks go to colleagues who have, with best-practice, shown us
the way like Germany, Japan, Macedonia, Rumania, Croatia and Nigeria.
It is our pleasure to join the club.

HYBRIDGE Project
Distributed Control and Stochastic Analysis of Hybrid Systems Supporting Safety Critical Real-Time Systems Design
Project period January 2002 - December 2004
Action line Distributed Control
Total project cost: 3,991,156
European Commision funding: 2,396,633

However good the control design for systems will be, humans are the only ones carrying responsibility for the operational safety. This implies that control system designs for safety critical operations have to be embedded within sound safety management systems such that the level of safety stays under control of humans. The objective of HYBRIDGE is to develop the methodologies to accomplish this, and to demonstrate their use in support of advanced air traffic management design.
For the realisation of this we will systematically refer to the design of advanced air traffic management, since it is well known as one of the most complex distributed safety critical systems, it allows to show how the different HYBRIDGE developments complement each other, and it supports the urgent need of innovative approaches in advanced ATM developments.
